The Chamber of Commerce for the Mastics & Shirley will be holding its 50th annual Christmas parade down Montauk Highway. The event will be at noon on Sunday, Dec. 1, with a rain date of Sunday, Dec. 8.
“We hope for a great day,” said Frank Montanez Jr., chairman of the parade.
The parade will feature about 60 different community groups, school groups, fire departments, ambulance companies and local businesses. There will also be live bands playing and local dance studios performing routines. Montanez said the best place to catch these performances is at the Showmobile, located at the corner of Herkimer Street and Montauk Highway.
All of the floats are reviewed by a group of judges, who will give awards for best community group, best scout group and a new award for best performance. The parade will run from the SouthPort Shopping Center along Montauk Highway east to the Mastic Fire Department.
