5K Run for Literacy scheduled for September 10

5K Run

From the bridge to the beach, this fun event is suitable for runners of all ages! This year, the course will cross back and forth over the Smith Point Bridge as usual but the finish line will be at the beach pavilion.

The 16th annual Smith Point Bridge 5K Run for Literacy will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2016. The magnificent backdrop of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and white sand beaches make this race a landmark event on the Long Island racing calendar.

Visit the event website for course details, runner registration, and sponsorship information. Both individual and business sponsorships are encouraged.

Complimentary runner registration is available at many levels of sponsorship. Runner pre-registration cost is $22. Proceeds support the Community Family Literacy Project. Funds also support an annual competitive scholarship award for a William Floyd High School senior who demonstrates an understanding of literacy and cultural diversity, and free books for children through the Reach Out and Read program at the HRHCare Marilyn Shellabarger Health Center.

For more information please visit the event website or call the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library literacy department at 399-1511 ext. 215 or 214.
