Approval of NY State Budget Extensions

“As we approach the budget process each year, I have continually worked to bring meaningful tax relief to Long Islanders,” said Senator Ken LaValle. “This year, due to a number of unresolved critical issues, it was necessary to approve budget extensions in order to keep the government functioning as we work towards better solutions”

Senator LaValle said, “I am continuing to fight for a permanent 2% state spending cap, to secure additional state school aid, to maintain funding of the STAR rebate program, and help businesses create new lasting jobs. As Chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee, I am working this year to bring more financial aid to middle class families with children in college. On Long Island, it’s critically important that we work to keep our water clean.  This year, I am advocating for the largest investment in state history to preserve this natural resource. I believe that having a good state budget is more important than passing an inferior budget. By approving the budget extensions, now we have the opportunity to continue to work towards a state budget that reflects Long Islander’s needs.”
