Bellone urges blood donations

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone donated blood Wednesday at the New York Blood Center after this week’s snowstorm created the single-largest loss of scheduled blood donations in the New York metropolitan area since Superstorm Sandy. “It is important to remember that blizzards can have far-reaching impacts more than just school closings and snow removal. The New York Blood Center is currently experiencing the largest single shortage of blood donations since Superstorm Sandy because of donation center closings and blood drive cancellations, and a loss of over 3,000 pints of blood. I am asking every capable donor to come out, donate blood today or tomorrow and give the gift of life to another human.” Other county employees, including Suffolk County Comptroller John Kennedy, Dennis M. Cohen, chief deputy county executive, and Jon Schneider, deputy county executive, also donated at  the blood center in Bohemia.
