Joseph Fazio was born on March 27th, 1916 in the Bronx, New York. At the age of nine he moved to Brooklyn and ultimately started his own trucking business. In the late 1940’s Joseph and his family moved to Mastic Beach. He was drawn to the beautiful beaches, fishing, clamming, and boating.
Joe has been an active member of the community throughout his life. He has assisted in building benches for local docks and built the Santa sleigh used by the Mastic Beach Property Owner’s in the annual Christmas parade. Joe volunteered for annual seafood festivals, loves ballroom dancing and continues to play the piano for senior citizens. He is a long standing member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He dresses to the nines at special events and even wears a tie to work in his garden. Joe currently has two-hundred seedling tomato plants and intends to grow hundreds more. He is known for sharing this crop with anyone that enjoys tomatoes. He believes that good food, good family, good friends and a strong belief in God have kept him going to one hundred.
“Not only has he survived the most exciting century in American history, but he continues to remain an active member of the neighborhood,”stated Legislator Kate Browning. “He has enriched the lives of so many people, and is an inspiration to everyone. I wish him many more years of happiness.”
