The Longwood Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Connolly as principal of Coram Elementary School, effective July 1, 2017. Mrs. Connolly replaces Vaughn Denton who was named Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel and Community Services.
“We welcome Susan Connolly as principal of Coram,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael R. Lonergan. “Her extensive educational and administrative experience continues to be an asset to our school community. We wish her much success in her new role.”
Mrs. Connolly began her career at Longwood School District in 2000 as the assistant principal at Coram Elementary School. In 2004, she was appointed principal of Brookhaven Elementary School in the South Country School District. Longwood welcomed Mrs. Connolly back in 2007 as the Director of Elementary Education.
During her tenure at Longwood, Mrs. Connolly organized professional development opportunities for summer reading and writing institutes, led curriculum and instruction improvement activities, and facilitated the NYS Consolidated Grant. She also worked closely with educational leaders in curriculum and instruction at the local, state and regional levels.
“I am honored to be appointed as principal of Coram Elementary, and I look forward to working with the dedicated staff to provide the best possible educational program for our students,” said Mrs. Connolly. “Although my career has taken me across schools, what I find comparable is the child-centered approach to education that is characteristic in districts and results in an excellent school program. Parents and staff who collaboratively work together each day for the students is the exemplary quality that attracted me to Coram School. I am very excited to be a part of the Coram school family and to closely work with everyone to make our school even better.”
Mrs. Connolly received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education at Saint Leo University, earned her master’s degree in Reading from LIU Southampton, and holds her Professional Diploma, Educational Administration from Dowling College.
