At tonight’s Village Meeting, the Mayor will formally confirm the purchase of the Brookhaven Nutrition Center at 369 Neighborhood Road. A sales agreement has been officially approved between the Brookhaven Town Board and the Mastic Beach Village Board. Completion of the required documents will take place in the near future.
The building and grounds total approximately one acre and include the gazebo area adjacent to the building and the rear parking lots. The building will give the village a much needed increase in work space and allow for the village court and all village meetings to take place in Village Hall.
Mayor Biondi and the entire Board made the decision to proceed, and listed the following reasons as major factors in convincing them that the purchase was in the best interests of the village and its residents:
Holding village meetings and court sessions inside Village Hall will save thousands of dollars a month in fees now payed to the Mastic Beach Fire Department;
The new building will be owned by the village. This means that taxpayer funds are now going to be invested, rather than lost to rental payments each month;
Having Village Hall located in the center of Neighborhood Road will create stability in the entire area, promote investments in new businesses and encourage improvements to existing establishments;
The twenty-four hour a day presence in the area will contribute to increased security and allow for a planned expansion of video cameras along the entire length of Neighborhood Road;
The village will now own the gazebo and small park adjacent to the new building, which will allow for increased safety in the area;
Additionally, we will now have a formal village square where the village and local civic groups can hold a variety of functions throughout the year;
All residents are encouraged to attend tonight’s village meeting and join in sharing this important milestone in our Village’s promising future.
