The owner of 102 Laurelton Drive called 911 on February 10 after he found a deceased cat in the home, which is occupied by squatters. During further investigation, a 1-year-old female pit bull, named Karma, was found locked in a bedroom filled with feces and urine. The dog was underweight with no access to food or water.
Seventh Precinct officers arrested one of the squatters, Ashley Dollard, on February 11 and charged her with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals under New York State Agriculture and Markets Law. Dollard, 23, was released on bail and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on April 12.
Town of Brookhaven Animal Control took custody of the dog and officials from the Town of Brookhaven condemned the home, which had no running water.
