The William Floyd Middle School Quiz Bowl team recently put forth a strong performance at the Regional Science Quiz Bowl tournament held at Brookhaven National Laboratory – winning their division with several impressive victories and finishing fourth overall out of 20 teams in a fast-paced, question-and-answer format competition covering a range of disciplines including life sciences, the earth and space sciences, energy, mathematics and general science.
The team, led by eighth-grade Regents Living Environment teacher Ms. Mary Nappi and technology teacher Mr. John Rumpler, consists of students Farihah Chowdhury, Amir Abdualiev, John Hangley, Nathalia Reis and Louis Parrinello.
“In addition to being among the fastest, brightest young minds; they studied and practiced very hard – they earned their victories,” said Ms. Nappi. “I am very proud of them and thankful for the tremendous school and parental support,” she said, adding, “I hope to instill the fun of competitive learning while preparing students for future successes in some of the world’s fastest growing fields in science research and engineering.”
The Regional Science Quiz Bowl is an annual premier academic competition that pits academic teams from various districts against one another. William Floyd Middle School has earned numerous trophies from previous competitions.
