Police officer helps deliver baby

A Suffolk County police officer assisted members of the Center Moriches Ambulance deliver a baby in Center Moriches this morning.

A man was driving his 39-year-old wife, who was in labor, to a hospital and he pulled over the vehicle in front of 20 Messina Ave. A 911 call was made and Seventh Precinct Police Officer Michele Speed responded along with members of the Center Moriches Ambulance.

Officer Speed, a former nurse, assisted Walter Klieber, a paramedic with the Center Moriches Ambulance, deliver the baby, a girl, in the vehicle at approximately 11:20 a.m. The woman and her baby were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital.
