This Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, a number of veterans organizations, fire departments and community members have plans to remember those who have served.
The Blue Point Fire Department will have a parade to celebrate Memorial Day beginning at 11 a.m. on Blue Point Avenue and Middle Road. The parade will end at the firehouse.
A parade will commence at 9:30 a.m., sponsored by the Brookhaven Fire Department. The parade starts at Bellport High School and travels east on South Country Road to the memorial cannon and park located on John Strickland Way. At the park, the Brookhaven Fire Department, South Country Ambulance and VFW Post 8300 will hold a memorial service.
The Bellport Village Memorial Day parade begins at 11 a.m. at the village green, located at Bellport Lane and Bell Street, on Monday, May 27. The parade proceeds north on Station Road to the village cemetery, where members of VFW Post 8300 will hold a ceremony.
The Bellport Garden Club will also be hosting their plant sale on Main Street in front of CVS from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Medford Fire Department is hosting their annual Memorial Day parade beginning at 11 a.m. at Tremont Avenue School and ending at Medford Memorial Park with a ceremony to follow. The fire department will be serving hot dogs and refreshments.
The United Veterans Organization including local American Legion Post 269, VFW Post 2913 and AmVets Post 111 will be hosting their annual Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. from Route 112 to the American Legion located on South Ocean Avenue, to be followed by a ceremony and post rededication.
The Patchogue Fire Department will also host a service on Memorial Day at 10 a.m. in front of the firehouse located on Jennings Avenue. AmVets Post 111 will have a service at 8 a.m. at their building on Cedar Avenue.
