Supervisor Ed Romaine and the Chief Fire Marshal Chris Mehrman have urged residents to be aware of their surroundings when out in public places. The warning comes in the aftermath of the warehouse fire on December 2 in Oakland, California that claimed the lives of more than 30 people. Supervisor Romaine said, “Tragic fires like the one in Oakland can be prevented if the proper building and fire codes are followed. I want to remind our residents that if you are in a building and something does not seem right or appears dangerous, such as overcrowding, open flame devices, blocked exits or large gatherings in areas not normally occupied for such purposes; report it immediately by calling (631) 451-TOWN (8696).”
