$3 million in grants for Suffolk homeless programs

Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $2,900,950 in Continuum of Care grants to local homeless assistance programs across New York’s First Congressional District, which help individuals and families experiencing homelessness, particularly those living in places not meant for habitation, located in sheltering programs or at imminent risk of becoming homeless.

“From our nation’s veterans to our communities’ senior citizens to others just trying to get by, there are so many critical local organizations that help our most vulnerable populations, and it is vital that we ensure they have the support they need to continue their important work,” Zeldin said. “These grants inject funding directly into the heart of our communities through these local organizations, making a real and noticeable difference on the ground for our neighbors in need.”

The nearly $3 million in grants included:

• $1,002,862 for Concern for Independent Living of Medford;
• $817,369 for Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Inc of Patchogue;
• $410,873 for Options for Community Living of Ronkonkoma;
• $401,547 for Brighter Tomorrows, Inc of Shirley;
• $180,572 for Suffolk County Department of Social Services / Beacon House III of Ronkonkoma; and 
• $87,727 for the Association for Mental Health and Wellness of Ronkonkoma
