Kings Kids distributes 250 turkeys

Posted

This year, Patrick “PJ” Balzer and his wife, Catherine Gutierrez, of The Kings Kids Christian Outreach in Mastic Beach, provided meals for those in need this Thanksgiving.

He and his wife and a few volunteers handed out 250 frozen turkeys to people throughout the community that they have been helping for years. This year, they set up a main point of distribution, while some volunteers also hand-delivered to specific houses with home-bound people.

“It was a lot of fun being out there in the streets, touching hands with people, blessing people randomly and doing God’s work amongst our neighbors,” PJ said. “We also go to pray with a lot of people at their request that are really struggling this year with sickness, recent losses of loved ones, jobs and ultimately, their hope. I am really thankful, personally, for being able to do that and for the day as a whole.”

They served 100 of those turkeys to Lavonia Scaggs of the Empowerment Center in Mastic. She currently operates out of Angels of Long Island, run by Debbie Loesch, in their new space on Herkimer Street in Mastic.
