LI Ducks kick off ‘Heroes of the Game’ veteran appreciation program

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone recently threw out the first pitch at the Long Island Ducks first home game of the season against the New Britain Bees. For the third year in a row, the home opener kicked off Suffolk County’s “Heroes of the Game” program, where a local veteran or active duty service member is honored during a live in-game tribute for their dedication and service to our country.

The “Hero of the Game” who was honored during the home opener was Anthony Dellvalle, who served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy from 1986-2001. Anthony is currently a member of the American Legion and also assists veterans with the filing of disability claims and obtaining benefits.

Veterans and active duty personnel can register to be recognized as of one of the Heroes of the Game by contacting Melissa Pandolf at (631) 853-VETS or through email at Melissa.Pandolf@suffolkcountyny.gov. Each Hero of the Game will receive 10 complimentary tickets to the game at which they will be honored, so that they may bring their family and friends.
