The Patchogue-Medford Public Library was awarded more than $249,000 in state funding for a 67-space parking lot at its new branch at the Medford Athletic Complex on Horseblock Road.
The funding is part of more than $34 million in grants the Department of Education awarded for 197 library capital improvement projects across the state.
Pat-Med Library’s $249,865 grant will also go towards installing conduits for future EV charging stations at the Horseblock Road annex.
The library hopes to open the Medford branch by late fall, library director Danielle Paisley said.
In addition to Pat-Med Library, the Mastic-Moriches-Shirley Community Library and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System in Bellport also received funding. A total of more than $800,000 went to the three organizations.
“The state grant program is very competitive, and I am proud that our local libraries were able to step up with worthy projects to help me get our area’s fair share of the Education Department funds,” assemblyman Joe DeStefano said in a news release.
The Mastic-Moriches-Shirley Library was awarded $422,500 for a new septic system for the main branch in Shirley.
The Suffolk Cooperative Library system will receive $132,175 to install 12 EV charging stations and two Innovative Alternative septic systems at its headquarters in Bellport.
Also in our area, the West Babylon Library was awarded $330,324 to replace rooftop HVAC units and the outdated building management system, according to a list of grants statewide released by the Department of Education.
