William Floyd High School senior Nick LoMonaco earned one of just four Suffolk Police Athletic League outfield gold glove awards at the Suffolk Baseball Coaches Association awards banquet, held recently at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook, for his stellar efforts during the 2019 high school baseball season.

He was also selected to participate in the 15th annual Rawlings Grand Slam Challenge all-star game featuring the best high school baseball players from Suffolk and Nassau counties, who will face off against each other this Thursday, June 27 at Hofstra University.

Prior to the season, LoMonaco, described as a speedy centerfielder, was named to the Axcess Baseball Preseason All-Long Island team and the Newsday Top 100 Long Island high school baseball player list for 2019. He lived up to those accolades, hitting .376 with eight extra base hits, 25 runs scored and 24 stolen bases, helping the Colonials clinch a playoff spot, win 13 games in the regular season and a playoff game.

Keith Kobasiuk, head coach of the Colonials, is proud of LoMonaco’s accomplishments both on and off the field, including earning the gold glove award. “Nick is a great kid who has come a long way as a ballplayer,” said Kobasiuk. “I'm glad that he has the opportunity to represent himself and William Floyd at the Grand Slam Challenge.”
