Earlier this spring, the William Floyd Learning Center along with the WFLC PTO held its inaugural Special Needs Resource Fair with an emphasis on mental health services. With the theme, “Stop the Stigma,” the resource fair provided an opportunity for families seeking information on mental health or special needs services for their children to meet with representatives from agencies across Suffolk County. “For too long mental health has had a negative stigma attached to it,” said Gary Bretton, principal of the William Floyd Learning Center. “As a school community, we wanted to offer our families the opportunity to have easy access to multiple resources that help assist in dealing with mental health. These resources are often not easily available to families and it is our hope that this resource fair helped open the door for them to get the help and assistance they need.” In addition to having the resource organizations on hand, families also enjoyed a fun day of food, games, face painting, reptiles and other creatures from the Long Island Aquarium, raffles, vendors, a bounce house and more.
