Students build shed to donate

The William Floyd High School Building Trades and Construction Academy recently teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to help with the construction of a home on Bayview Drive in Mastic Beach. Under the guidance of carpentry teacher Matthew Van Horne and technology teacher Joseph Carpinone, 12th-grade students worked on cement footings for steps and built a platform to house a shed that they built in class and donated to their future neighbors. The students also raised an additional $350 to assist Habitat for Humanity with the building costs by collecting donations at school in exchange for signing a beam for use inside the home. This is the fifth home within the local or neighboring communities that the carpentry students have pitched in to help build over the past few years. Special thanks to Wood’s Towing in Shirley for their generous assistance in transporting the shed from the school to the home free of charge.
