Woodhull Fit Club places 6th in county

Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School fourth- and fifth-grade students recently placed sixth out of 31 Suffolk County teams in the third annual Suffolk Zone Fit Club competition sponsored by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. The competition consisted of two events — a fitness relay and an “as many reps as possible” event, which tested their physical fitness aptitude. The competition took place at Lincoln Avenue Elementary School in Sayville.

The Nathaniel Woodhull Fitness team, led by physical education teacher Christopher Mocera, spent eight weeks competitively training for the Fit Club competition, building up endurance in sit-ups, jumping rope, box jumps, hurdle jumps, shoulder taps, agility runs and more. They worked on their skills in physical education class, before and after school in clubs, and practiced at home on their own. “I am extremely proud of all the students in the fitness club and what they accomplished,” said Mocera. “Their hard work and dedication was shown in their times, which improved tremendously from the first practice to the competition. These students have the knowledge and skills to continue living a healthy and fit lifestyle.”
