Student named First Place Winner in Suffolk County Pool Smart Contest

Ariana Gutierrez, a sixth-grade student at Longwood Middle School, was recently named first place winner in the 2017 Suffolk County Legislature’s “Be Pool Smart” Poster Contest.

Chosen from hundreds of entries from students across Suffolk County, Ariana’s winning poster will be used as part of a countywide message from the Suffolk County Department of Health Services in its seasonal safety campaign. Ariana was also awarded a special Suffolk County Proclamation from Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker at the Legislature’s General Meeting on June 6, 2017.

Established in 2007, the competition invites elementary school students to promote the importance of pool safety by creating a poster that illustrates one or more safety tips.
