Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today announced that hundreds of job seekers are expected to attend the 2017 Suffolk County Career Expo on Friday, October 20. The Career Expo will designate the first hour of the job fair from 10 am to 11 am to cater to the veteran population. The Expo will be opened to the general public beginning at 11 am to 1 pm.
The Expo, held at Suffolk County Community College’s Brentwood campus, is a joint venture of the One-Stop Employment Center and the Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency.
“With the largest veteran population in New York State, I have directed my administration to organize events such as these in order to help our servicemen and women find the right job for them, ” said County Executive Steve Bellone. “I thank the hundreds of organizations who are committed to employing veterans that will help develop their professional skills.”
Over 100 companies including Canon USA, New York Community Bank, Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, Henry Schein Inc., Northwell Health, Dish Network, US Customs & Border Protection, and United Parcel Service will be meeting with potential candidates to fill hundreds of open positions.
Suffolk Department of Labor Commissioner Frank Nardelli and Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency Director Thomas Ronayne, in a joint statement, said, “Our veterans have much to offer local employers. The Expo helps place job-seeking veterans with hiring companies, benefitting both parties.”
Event sponsors include Bren-Tronics, Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, United Way of Long Island, Community Mainstreaming Associates, Inc., St. Joseph’s College, and East/West.
