Town donations help vets

On Nov. 16, Brookhaven Town supervisor Ed Romaine met with members of the Suffolk County Local 1500 Retirees Club to thank them for their heartwarming donations of food to veterans in need in Brookhaven Town. Club members dropped off nearly 20 large boxes of nonperishable food to the Henrietta Acampora Recreation Center in Blue Point, where Romaine presented the club with a proclamation from the entire town board for its efforts. In June, the Suffolk County Local 1500 Retirees Club donated several boxes of food to the Town of Brookhaven Division of Veterans Services’ veterans food drive. When the club found out about the many ways the town’s Division of Veterans Services works in partnership with the Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency to help veterans, members decided on their own accord to do another food collection to donate to the town for Thanksgiving. These boxes were then distributed to each of the six town council district offices to distribute to veterans in need throughout Brookhaven Town. Additionally, Brookhaven resident Bill Lyon took it upon himself to donate about 25 boxes of food to the Town of Brookhaven to distribute to veterans in need for the Thanksgiving holiday season. The town distributed this food to a local VFW in time for Thanksgiving Day.
