Mastic Beach, NY, November 13, 2018 – The No. 1 ranked William Floyd Colonials have punched their ticket back to the Suffolk County Championship game for the third consecutive year with a 34-7 win over Sachem East this past Saturday. With this victory, they are now headed back to Stony Brook University on Saturday, November 17 at 12 pm, with a chance to secure their 11th Suffolk County crown. They will face the No. 2 ranked Ward Melville Patriots, a team they defeated in week six 42-12.
The Colonials (10-0) were powered in the semifinal match by Mack Driver who ran for four touchdowns, recorded a sack and forced a fumble all in just one quarter of play. They rounded out the scoring on the first play of the second quarter as Tyshawn Lopez scampered for a 73-yard score. In their undefeated season so far, the Colonials have outscored their opponents 421-71.
This championship game is also a rematch of two years ago which saw the Colonials win 28-21. The winner of this game will compete for the Long Island Championship the following week. The Colonials, under head coach Paul Longo, currently own five Long Island Championships (2005, 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2012) and 10 Suffolk County Championships (2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016).
