The William Floyd Colonials girls varsity cross country team under the direction of head coach John Ryan has gotten off to a good start this season which includes a fourth-place team finish in the “Senior Race” at the Jim Smith Memorial Invitational held at Sunken Meadow State Park earlier this September. Senior Sandra Vivar placed third overall out of 80 athletes, recording a personal best time of 21 minutes and 58 seconds in the Sunken Meadow 5K course.
The freshman team of Brianna Ivans, Samantha Share, Nicole Pinkosh and Hailey Carey also had a strong performance. Eighth-grader Hailey Carey, in her first ever high school cross country race, led the way with an 11th place finish in a field of 165. Sandra Vivar followed up her performance at Sunken Meadow with another strong showing at the Suffern Invitational in Bear Mountain, NY, the following weekend, where she finished 13th out of 117 runners with a three-mile course finish of 20 minutes and 40 seconds.
