Three of William Floyd Middle School’s top student musicians have been selected to represent the district in the 2013 New York State Band Directors Association (NYSBDA) Middle School All-State Honor Band. Students from all over New York State who have similarly earned seats in the honor band will perform together in Liverpool, NY, on March 1 and 2.
To be chosen for NYSBDA is quite an accomplishment. Band Directors across the state nominate students who demonstrate outstanding musicianship, accomplishment, citizenship, and responsibility. In addition, nominated students must have exhibited superior musical ability on their New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) solo evaluation the prior spring. Final selection of nominated students is conducted by a committee of NYSBDA board members after careful review of submitted recommendations and NYSSMA solo evaluation sheets.
Those students selected to represent William Floyd Middle School in the NYSBDA Middle School All-State Honor Band are Ryan Cotto (French horn), Ryan Siegel (alto saxophone), and Justin Wheeler (trumpet). “The commitment and dedication required to achieve this distinction is significant, “explained Dawn Conefry, Band Director at William Floyd Middle School. “Both students and staff are proud to have them represent William Floyd at the symposium because the embody everything that our music department values – the highest standards coupled with hard work and a bottomless supply of determination. We wish them the very best at their performance this spring.”
