At the May 12 Town Board meeting, Councilmen Dan Panico, Kevin LaValle, Neil Foley and the Town Board honored the William Floyd, Sachem East and Sachem North High Schools for winning the 17th-annual Long Island FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition held at Hofstra University.

The three schools formed an alliance that included Marista Pio XII from Hamburgo, Brazil to face off against 50 other teams from Long Island and around the world. They overcame two exciting tiebreakers to secure the title. In addition to winning the overall competition, William Floyd also received the “Innovation in Control” Award which recognizes an innovative control system or application of control components (electrical, mechanical or software) to provide unique machine functions.
