21 Elementary Students Selected for SCMEA PEAK Festival

Posted

Twenty-one students from Moriches, Tangier Smith and William Floyd elementary schools recently participated in the Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA) PEAK (Parents, Educators and Kids) Festival at Northport High School, an annual gathering of just 200 talented fourth-grade student-musicians from all across Suffolk County who are nominated by their teachers and selected by SCMEA. This year’s festival included a series of musical workshops in which parents, educators and kids had the opportunity to make music together in a collaborative setting.

“It is a big honor to be selected for this event,” stated PEAK Festival co-chairs Cristen Salisbury and Jennifer Fischer in a nomination letter to parents. “You should be quite proud of your child’s musical accomplishments.”

During this year’s PEAK Festival, the first in-person gathering since 2019, students, parents and music teachers rotated through three different workshops, focusing on the ukulele, musical theater, folk dance, singing games, dance cardio and more, before performing together on stage to demonstrate what they had learned.
