On Saturday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m., South Country held their homecoming parade, which was well attended with onlookers lined along the Four Corners in Bellport Village.
The theme of this year’s parade was the global and cosmopolitan-inspired “Cities of the World.” The festivities proceeded from Bellport Middle School to the Bellport Fire Department. Several alumni and members of the community cheered the procession on while wearing bedazzled jerseys and shaking cowbells to add to the school and community spirit. There was also a scarecrow and pumpkin contest that day during the seasonal festivities.
The iconic cities, which Bellport got a taste of rolling down Main Street, featured on creatively crafted floats included Tokyo, Rome, Athens, and Paris.
Glen McAvoy, a football coach at Bellport Middle School, was on hand at the event to see the much-anticipated floats, while gearing up to watch the homecoming game later in the day.
“It is probably the best game of the year because it brings the community together, and everybody can gather at the Four Corners on a nice day to see all the participation from the students, all the clubs, music, everything. It brings the town together for a great weekend,” he said, adding that the floats being kept a surprise adds to the anticipation for the occasion. “The floats are always the best parts. They’re always kept under wraps until today, so it’s good to see what everybody will come up with.”
Congratulations to Bellport High School for being victorious against Newfield, 34-4!
