A number of veterans’ organizations, fire departments, and community members have plans to remember those who have served. Below is a compiled list to attend a local Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 27.
Blue Point
The Blue Point Fire Department will have a parade to celebrate Memorial Day beginning at 11 a.m. on Blue Point Avenue and Middle Road on Monday, May 27. The parade will proceed north to the firehouse for a ceremony.
Brookhaven
A parade will commence at 9 a.m., sponsored by the Brookhaven Fire Department. The parade starts at Bellport High School and proceed to the Memorial Park in Brookhaven. At the park, the Brookhaven Fire Department and VFW Post 8300 will hold a memorial service.
Bellport
The Bellport Village Memorial Day parade begins at 11 a.m. at the Village Green, located at Bellport Lane and Bell Street, on Monday, May 27. The parade proceeds north on Station Road to the village cemetery, where members of VFW Post 8300 will hold a ceremony.
Medford
The Medford Fire Department will be hosting their Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. on Route 112 from Tremont Elementary School to Neil Marturiello Way. The grand marshal will be William Hart.
Also, Vietnam Air Force veteran and VFW member Walter Maresco will be walking Route 112 from Tremont Elementary School north to the VFW Hall at 9 a.m.
Patchogue
The United Veterans Organization including local American Legion Post 269, VFW Post 2913 and Amvets Post 8111, will be hosting their annual Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. from Route 112 to the American Legion located on South Ocean Avenue, to be followed by a ceremony.
The Patchogue Fire Department will also host a service on Memorial Day at 9 a.m. in front of the firehouse located on Jennings Avenue. Amvets Post 111 will have a service at 8 a.m. at their building on Cedar Avenue.
Garden Club Plant Sale
The Bellport Garden Club is holding its annual plant sale on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., on the Village Green in front of the CVS, South Country Road, Bellport Village. Offered for sale will be perennials, annuals and herbs (all grown by Garden Club members), as well as house plants. All proceeds from the sale are used to purchase trees for Bellport Village. The plant sale is held in conjunction with Bellport’s annual Memorial Day parade.
