William Paca Middle School teachers recently participated in a friendly volleyball tournament against Suffolk County Police Department’s 7th Precinct COPE (Community Oriented Police Engagement) and school resource officers. This event, spearheaded by eighth-grade social worker Alyssa Cabrera, served as an opportunity for students to see the police officers as community helpers and foster a stronger relationship between them.
“I wanted to put this event together because oftentimes, when the kids see police show up to the school, they assume that something bad is happening,” said Cabrera. “Seeing the officers having fun within the school setting will help the relationships the students have with them.”
The 7th Precinct won three out of four games! William Paca Middle School team participants included Joseph Lee, Lori Engelken, Jeffery Jusino, Cassandra Gray, Nicole Raevis, Katherine Budas, Nicole Azar, Ashley Cameron, Felicia Mannino, Eric Synder, Collette Davies, Mike Charles, Ashley Ramkissoon, Steven Dorn, Chris Mocera, Caitlin Arne, Brianna Rodda, Paula Malguarnera, Madeline Egan, Marco Antenucci and Kevin Durant.
A special thank you went out to Sgt. Ferrara, Officer Raspanti, Officer Foley, Officer Rein, Officer Anderson and Officer Czarlosik for participating in the volleyball tournament and to Officer Pollio for helping plan the event.
