Circus performers on stilts. Gateway Playhouse and Stage Door School of Dance performers. Pony rides at the gazebo.
Not to mention more vendors on Bellport Lane, along with the South Bay Art Association’s plein air creations for sale.
Did we mention a square dance at 2 p.m.? Oh, and the Bellport Fire Department Craft Fair in their back parking lot; a band shell will be out front.
Those are some of the feel-good reasons to attend Bellport Day on July 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. But there’s another. It’s the 100th anniversary of the Bellport Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s the kick-off to our 100th anniversary,” said chamber co-president LuAnn Thompson.
“This year we’re adding more vendors on the lane alongside the South Bay Art Association—40 of them. Shop owners will open their doors for browsing, but will sell their wares on tables out front, too, as the Main Street will be closed to traffic.”
There are 50 businesses, including the South Country Library and a book signing at Pamela Lerner & Design.
The Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Museum-sponsored square dancing, with popcorn, will be on the gazebo lawn, Thompson added.
Say hello to some of the politicians who will stroll the street, which will include some not-for-profits.
There will be plenty of local restaurants to choose from as well as coffee shops.
As for celebrating the chamber’s 100th, Thompson said plans aren’t finalized just yet, but the thinking was a birthday card signed by residents. Suffolk County Legis. Dominick Thorne presented Thompson with a Certificate of Recognition for the chamber’s 100 years.
