Despite their best efforts, the East Islip Redmen were defeated 26-16 by Plainedge for the Long Island Class III Championship at Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium on Friday, Nov. 26.
Plainedge was on the board first, but trailed 10-7 to East Islip at the half. In the third quarter, Plainedge scored 19 unanswered points. East Islip scored six points in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to overcome Plainedge’s lead.
The Redmen’s star senior quarterback Derek Burrell rushed for 151 yards and a touchdown, and also threw a touchdown for East Islip. Burrell entered Friday’s game with 1,321 rushing yards, 1,223 passing yards and 31 total touchdowns.
The Redmen finished off their season 10-2 overall.
