The William Floyd boys and girls basketball teams and the Bellport boys basketball team are headed to playoffs, which start Thursday.
William Floyd boys
12-0 in League I, (17-3 overall)
The Colonials host the Newfield/Ward Melville winner Thursday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.
The Colonials won their third consecutive League I regular season title going undefeated in a tough league that includes powerhouses like Riverhead, Longwood and an emerging Walt Whitman.
The Colonials sport three Newsday top 100 players: senior guard Jermaine King, 6-5 senior forward Jawuan Smith and 6-6 center Dahmarion Moses.
It’s been an emotional season for the Colonials, whose assistant coach Darrell Sumpter died during the season. Floyd is looking to win the Suffolk AAA championship after losing to Bay Shore last year in the title game. It was their only loss of the season.
William Floyd girls
6-6 in League 1, (10-10 overall)
The Colonials play at Northport on Thursday at 5 p.m.
It was a rebuilding season for the Colonials who lost last season in the semifinals to Walt Whitman, which went on to win a Long Island Championship.
The Colonials lost several key players to graduation including Shy Hawkins, who is playing at Syracuse, and 1,000-plus point career scorers Kayla Gilmore and Jackie Sutherland. This year’s team, led by Silvana Pantry, Milania Farrow and Chloe Campbell, has shown it’s got the potential to go even farther in the playoffs. Another game against Whitman would be very exciting.
Bellport boys
10-3 in League IV, (13-6 overall)
The Clippers host Amityville on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.
Bellport put together a streak in January in which the Clippers went 5-1 with their only loss to a talented Smithtown West team. The Clippers sport one of the tallest lineups with 6-5 center Joel Ferebee, 6-4 forward Michael Frankie and 6-5 forward Sean Glynn, a Newsday top 100 selection. Those three, plus guards Jordan Battist and Amari Trent, can help the Clippers make a deeper playoff run than last season when they lost to Smithtown West in the second round.
