Bay Shore Arts Festival comes to Main Street

Posted

Rows of music, art, and food vendors lined Main Street in Bay Shore during the annual Bay Shore Arts Festival on June 9.

Despite some rain early in the day, crowds filled Main Street as the clouds parted. Bands and orchestras from Bay Shore middle and high schools performed in the late morning and early afternoon, followed by music from the local choral groups The Greater Nassau Chorus, The Hibernian Festival Singers, The Babylon Chorale, and Bay Shore High School Chorus.

Local restaurants were packed with customers, even as more seating became available outdoors on the sidewalk and street. Business owners welcomed visitors and were excited about bringing the community together to celebrate creativity. Co-owner of Earth’n Vessel Pottery Studio, Carolyn Martinich, ran a stall outside the store alongside a live pottery demonstration.

“More than anything, rather than sales, it’s exposure for the community,” Martinich said.

Other attractions included pony rides and a petting zoo, where people could interact with goats, ducks, sheep, and chickens. Local painters and craftspeople also set up tents and sold merchandise to eager customers.
