A rainy Sunday didn’t stop the Brookhaven Fire Department from holding a parade and open house on Sunday to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
The parade honored eight members of the department with 50 years or more of service.
It also attracted several local elected officials, including Brookhaven Town supervisor Ed Romaine, State Sen. Dean Murray, assemblyman Joe DeStefano and Brookhaven Town board member Dominick Thorne.
The parade and open house were originally scheduled for Saturday, but were moved to Sunday because of inclement weather.
The all-volunteer Brookhaven Fire Department has more than 100 members and provides service to Brookhaven and portions of Bellport, Yaphank and Shirley.
