Legis. Dominick Thorne recently honored Jesse Sangiovanni as the 7th Legislative District’s Champion of Diversity.
“Mr. Sangiovanni is a pillar of our community who gives of himself continuously with a focus on both environmental and inclusivity to all residents,” Thorne said of his selection.
Sangiovanni serves as director of human resources for Northwell Health. Prior to his current role, he contributed over 20 years of leadership in Operations and Human Resources at CA Technologies, based in Islandia.
He holds a B.S. in organizational management from Nyack College and an M.B.A. from Hofstra University. His professional credentials include the SHRM-CP and HRCI-PHR certifications.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors for both the Knapp-Swezey and Island Outreach Foundations. He recently concluded his tenure with The Nature Conservancy, having served as a Long Island Board trustee (2017-2020) and subsequently as a New York State Board trustee through January 2025.
Sangiovanni maintains a strong commitment to community development on Long Island, focusing on environmental sustainability, research of tick-borne illnesses, affordable housing initiatives, and educational opportunities for underserved communities.
His environmental work includes supporting the Bayport-Blue Point Library’s transition to a nitrogen-removing septic system, collaborating with Seatuck Environmental on an oyster restoration and education project in Patchogue Village, and contributing to the restoration of the 5-Mile Look property in Blue Point, along with the Bayport-Blue Point Wellness room and outdoor space to help address some of the mental health struggles of the youth.
He is actively involved in affordable housing projects with Habitat for Humanity in North Bellport and Patchogue, including a current project in partnership with United Way/Youth Build. He also works with Patchogue-Medford and William Floyd High Schools to facilitate job placement programs for students in economically challenged areas.
Most recently at Northwell, he partnered with the leadership team to create an Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging (EDI&B) Committee as further demonstration of his commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all. This initiative is predominantly focused on the team member and patient experience, with ties to the community experience in eastern Suffolk County.
He and his wife, Danielle, have two young children. In addition to his philanthropic interests, he served as a volunteer firefighter with the Patchogue Fire Department and is currently a coach for Bayport-Blue Point Little League and travel baseball teams.
