On Tuesday, Jan. 17, Legis. Dominick Thorne participated in a press conference that was held with all levels of government to announce work that will be done to connect the Blue Point Harbour Condominiums to the Patchogue Village sewer system. This will remove large quantities of nitrogen and other harmful chemicals from the water each day, with about 6,000 pounds of nitrogen being removed per year. Suffolk County executive Steve Bellone has created a pilot program that will fund about $1 million of the estimated $2.4 million program. “We need to keep Long Island waters in good condition so that those that come after us can enjoy the Long Island environment just as we have,” Thorne said.
