A perfect fall afternoon and community pride was the backdrop for Connetquot Central School District’s annual homecoming parade and game, held on Oct. 9.
Fun-filled activities started with a Friday afternoon pep rally, during which the district’s sports teams and homecoming court were introduced. The classes built floats based on board games including, Clue (freshman), Candy Land (sophomores), Hungry, Hungry Hippos (juniors) and Monopoly (seniors) and competed in a variety of games for points. In addition to float building, each class wrote a skit to accompany their float’s theme and to perform prior to the football game. After points for the games, floats and skits were tallied, the sophomore class won first place. The seniors, juniors and freshmen placed second, third and fourth, respectively.
Prior to the Saturday game against Smithtown High School East, class floats, the marching band, cheerleaders and homecoming court were led down Seventh Avenue, around the neighborhood and to the football field as fans cheered from the sidewalks.
During the halftime show, the cheerleaders motivated the already upbeat fans and the marching band gave a flawless performance of tunes by Lady Gaga. The homecoming court was also announced to the community and included: King Evan Venth and Queen Natalie Jo Pederson; freshmen Lady Allie Hanzel, Lord Justin Licata and Lady Emma Zinkowski; sophomore Duke Daniel Bauernfeind and Duchess Emily Richmond and juniors Prince Mirza Mahim and Princess Olivia Hirt.
The T-Birds lived up to their reputation and name, claiming a 42-32 victory against their opponent.
