On June 6, AJCE Corp was awarded the contract to begin the removal of the separated shotcrete panels and brick rubble located on the northeast side of the lighthouse terrace. “We are excited work can begin to safely remove debris and stabilize this jewel within the national park system and Long Island,” said Alexcy Romero, superintendent of Fire Island National Seashore. The park also advises visitors to stay out of closed areas. Although the tower is temporarily closed, the Lens Building, Keepers Quarters, and museum store are open and accessible to the public.
