Five Islip High School seniors committed to continuing their athletic careers at the collegiate level next fall, signing letters of intent during a Nov. 9 ceremony in the school cafeteria with their proud families looking on.

The student-athletes who signed were Dakota Dieumegard, who will play soccer at Mercy University; Keira Jantz, who will play softball at Mercy University; Kathryn Lettieri, who will play lacrosse at American International College; Lauren McSweeney, who will play softball at Mercy University; and Carley Mullins, who will play lacrosse at Mercer University.

“Honestly, college goes by in the blink of an eye,” athletic director John Sparacio told the seniors. “This is a big step in your life, so enjoy every minute that you’re out on the field or in your college classes, as well as the friendships that you are going to make with your teammates. Take advantage of all the opportunities available to you at school.”

“As their principal, I can say that we are so incredibly proud of these scholar-athletes for leading by example and showing that they can manage the very rigorous schedule that they have maintained with athletics, both in school and possibly travel, not to mention academics,” principal Lara Gonzalez said. “They have proved through hard work, dedication and focus that you can live your dream in high school.”
