Floyd track members set records

The William Floyd boys varsity track team under the leadership of head coach Ed Noll just completed a successful season with two student-athletes LaDuke Harris and Krishmar Powell standing out in the long-jump and high-jump events, and earning spots in the New York State Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on March 4.

Both of these student-athletes competed this past Monday at the New York State qualifying event held at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood, and finished in first and second, respectively, in the high jump, earning themselves a trip to the state finals. LaDuke also won the long-jump competition and will be competing in states in that event, as well. Coach Noll added that both athletes hit marks in their events to qualify them for the indoor nationals—Krishmar with a high jump of 6’5” and LaDuke with a 22’ 10” in long-jump. The indoor nationals will be held at The Armory during the weekend of March 11-12.

Additionally, two weeks ago, at the Suffolk County Championships, LaDuke Harris won the high-jump with a jump of 6’2” and followed up that performance with a 23’1” long-jump, the longest in the state this season, and a new school record in the process. LaDuke broke the mark previously set by Dwight Corley in 2015. He is now a two-event county champion in the high jump and long jump events. Krishmar Powell also had an amazing day at the county championships, finishing second in the 55-meter hurdles, with a performance just two hundredths of a second off of breaking a school record, and a third-place finish in the high-jump.

Earlier top performances include a third-place team finish in the League I championships at Suffolk County Community College in January. Along with several top finishes and league championship honors. Below are the results from that event.
