The future is waiting, and some fortunes are better left untold.
Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse returns to The Gateway in Bellport on Friday, Sept. 25, and runs through Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, with an all-new original theme, “Oracle’s Curse.”
Long Island’s No. 1 haunted attraction invites guests to take a spine-tingling journey through the area’s oldest and most haunted professional theatre. Recognized as one of BuzzFeed’s “Top 25 Haunted Houses Across America,” one of Hauntworld Magazine’s “America’s Best Haunted Attractions,” one of USA Today’s “Top 10 Haunted Houses in New York,” and voted “Best Haunted House on Long Island” by News 12, Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse delivers a fully immersive theatrical experience unlike any other.
This year, guests will enter the mysterious world of the Augur family, a once-renowned dynasty of fortunetellers whose desperate search for their lost powers has awakened something sinister beneath the grounds of The Gateway.
The story begins with Sullivan Augur, a prosperous whaler during Bellport’s formative years who possessed an extraordinary ability to see the future. Following his death, his descendants spread throughout the country and became famous fortunetellers. But with every new generation, the family’s abilities grew weaker and the Augur name began to lose its prestige.
Convinced that Sullivan’s powers were bound to his physical remains and had diminished as his body decomposed, his 13 remaining descendants returned to the family’s former estate, the land where The Gateway now stands. Their mission was to uncover Sullivan’s coffin and salvage whatever pieces of him still held power.
But the Augurs were not alone.
Their search brought them face-to-face with a gang of hellions inhabiting the long-dormant family graveyard. After unearthing Sullivan’s coffin, the descendants adorned themselves with the last remnants of his skeleton, hoping to reclaim the gift that once made their family famous.
Now, the Augur 13 have opened their doors at The Gateway to test whether their abilities have truly returned. Crowds anxious to discover their futures provide the perfect subjects, and the Augurs are willing to take any measure necessary to prove that they can once again see what lies ahead.
“Guests will step directly into the dark history of the Augur family, where fortunes come at a price and every prediction could become a nightmare,” said Paul Allan, executive artistic director. “Oracle’s Curse combines an original story, immersive theatrical design, and unforgettable characters to create a world where the future is never certain, but the danger is very real.”
