Islip varsity football started the season off in style beating the Kings Park Kingsmen 34-20, as it was the Buccaneers’ homecoming at Islip High School. In their second game, they fell to Sayville, 40-6.
In their victorious season opener, quarterback Brady Nash was 12/16 throwing for 190 passing yards, and on the ground, the dual-threat quarterback had six carries for 60 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.
Wide receiver Dylan Smith reeled in four passes totaling 110 receiving yards and on the defensive side of the ball notched three sacks. Running back Christian Hall had 75 rushing yards on seven carries and scored a touchdown, and Hall played sturdy defense as well.
Hall blocked a field goal, recovered the football, and sprinted 55 yards to the end zone for a defensive touchdown. The brawny defense dominated the Kingsmen. Caden Tierney and Robbie Rais both had two quarterback sacks apiece. Jake DeGennaro played terrific on special teams. DeGennaro took a kickoff return 93 yards to the house for a touchdown and added another touchdown on a 62-yard punt return.
