LI Community Hospital introduces interactive tablets

Devices to improve patient experience

In an ongoing effort to enhance patient experience, Long Island Community Hospital has unveiled a new digital tablet system called MyWall, a full-service electronic system allowing patients to customize their personal space.

The tablets, according to the hospital, are a far cry from the traditional television monitors that still exist at many medical centers and provide a user-friendly way to empower, educate, and entertain patients during their hospital stays.

“MyWall is a big step forward in providing patients with leading-edge technology through the duration of their stay,” said Marc S. Adler, M.D., senior vice president and chief of hospital operations. “By offering them a wide range of information and services right at their fingertips, we continue to progress toward our goal of achieving excellence in patient experience and overall quality of care as we near our merger with NYU Langone.” 

Patients can use MyWall to:

  • See who is on their health care team
  • View their estimated discharge date
  • Review educational courses assigned to them
  • Order meals
  • Log in to the MyChart patient portal to view lab results and schedule future appointments
  • Stay calm and entertained by watching their favorite TV shows
  • Receive video calls from clinicians
  • Call family and friends via softphone

NYU Langone Health, the active parent of Long Island Community Hospital, has installed nearly 2,000 MyWall units at its hospitals throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Long Island.

This advancement follows two significant milestones for Long Island Community Hospital as it moves closer to merging with NYU Langone next year. In June, the hospital celebrated performing its 1,000th robotic surgery, and in July, it was named a High Performing Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for the second consecutive year.
