Local school budgets pass, BOE candidates elected

WILLIAM FLOYD SCHOOL DISTRICT
The William Floyd School District budget and propositions all passed. Below are the results. The annual budget of $251,311,607 with a zero percent tax levy increase was passed with 1,323 votes by 458 no votes. Also, both propositions for the repair reserve and capital reserve were voted in as well.
Board of Education president Robert Vecchio was reelected with 1,237 votes and Jennifer Ng Heitman was elected to fill the vacated seat of Thomas Gross, who is retiring from service after 15 years on the BOE, with 798 votes. Candidate Kevin Meyer received 611 votes and Nick Pappas Taylor had 324.

PATCHOGUE-MEDFORD SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Patchogue-Medford School District passed their $198,935,170 budget by a vote of 1371 yes to 653 no. The budget reflects a $213.48 increase per average household while maintaining programing without any cuts and staying within the tax cap. Also, the proposition to re-allocate capital funds was approved by a vote of 1638 yes to 379 no.
Marc A. Negrin, Jennifer Krieger and Bernadette Smith were elected to three-year terms on the board of education beginning on July 1. Total votes garnered by each candidate are as follows: Negrin, 1,213; Krieger, 1,064; Smith, 980; Pamela Julian-Petersen, 769; Justin A. Conklin, 682; Francis Salazar, 328; Nathaly Diaz, 256.

SOUTH COUNTRY SCHOOL DISTRICT
The South Country School District budget of $145,451,282 passed at levy with an about $5-a-month increase per average taxpayer. The budget passed with 1,300 yes votes to 717 no votes. Board of Education trustees Chris Picini and Cameron Trent, both incumbents, were reelected. Picini received 1,256 votes; Trent, 1,166; and Melissa Aguanno-Walker, 1,007.
