UPDATED: Rescue group confirms romantic ploy to capture bull

Long Island Orchestrating for Nature (LION), a rescue group assisting in the capture of the Mastic bull confirmed that a menstruating cow named Norma Jean was used as a lure to capture him. 

The bull did not pursue her. 

UPDATE: The bull has been surrendered by the farm to the Skyland Animal Sanctuary and Rescue based in New Jersey.

As of 8:00 am this morning, no other 911 calls had come in about sighting the bull.



The 1,500 pound bull escaped from a farm in Manorville after breaking through a fence.  


Sunrise Highway is currently closed at the east-bound side of Exit 58 by the Suffolk County Police Department while Emergency Services attempts to subdue and capture a loose bull.

Multiple 911 calls came into SCPD about the loose bull in the Mastic area near Montgomery Avenue/Dean Street.

Emergency Services are trained to handle animal rescue, but may need  veterninary assistance if sedation is necessary.

No description of the bull was provided, nor are there any local residents who are known to have a pet bull.

Police are warning people not to approach the bull or attempt to capture the animal.
