Meet the new Women Marine Association co-chairs

Both Lisa Fischer of Medford and Renee Joseph of Wyandanch, are the new co-presidents the Women Marines Association, NY-7. The duo took over after former president StaceyAnn Castro-Tapler moved. The NY-7 Woman Marine Association group supports and builds camaraderie among women veterans throughout Long Island. For more information email the organization at NY7@womenmarines.org.

LISA FISCHER

Lisa Fischer enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in September 2004. After completing boot camp, she attended communications school training to become a field radio operator. In 2005, Fischer was assigned to 9th Communication Battalion at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and deployed to Iraq with the unit in 2008, where she reenlisted. After deployment Fischer was assigned to 6th Communications Battalion in Amityville, N.Y., where she worked as the permanent personnel  to the reserve component and served as a representative at a variety of community events. Fischer served a total of eight years on active duty reaching the rank of sergeant; she was medically retired in April 2013. Fischer used her GI Bill to complete her master’s degree in public health at Hofstra University and now works as a project manager at Northwell Health.

RENEE JOSEPH

Renee Joseph enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 1996. After completing boot camp, she was designated as 6323 (avionics electrician).  She trained in Pensacola, Fla., and New River, N.C.  Joseph was then assigned to HMH 463 at Marine Corps Base, Kaneohe, Hawaii. 

In June 1998, Joseph applied to and was accepted to the Enlisted Commissioning Program. She was commissioned as a second lieutenant in December 1998. Joseph served as a supply officer from 1999 until 2007. She attained the rank of captain before resigning her commission.

Joseph’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
