Suffolk County Legis. Dominick Thorne and Department of Public Works commissioner Charles Bartha recently announced the completion repaving project on Middle Road in Blue Point.
The project, which cost a total of the $860,000, spans from Atlantic Avenue to Blue Point Avenue on Middle Road. According to the DPW, the repaving was crucial for enhancing road and pedestrian safety, reducing traffic concerns, and improving walkability to nearby recreational facilities.
The project also focused on addressing the needs of residents with mobility challenges. According to Thorne, included in the project was replacing old, broken, and hazardous sidewalks with new ADA-compliant ones.
“We’ve made a significant positive impact,” he said.
Suffolk County also replaced damaged driveway aprons and upgraded all ADA-compliant intersection curb ramps. Additionally, they overhauled outdated drainage systems, which will reduce flooding from future weather events and improve curb appeal and quality of life for residents.
In addition to these improvements, Thorne noted that the county also recently dredged approximately 9,000 cubic yards of material from the Corey Creek Channel, marking the first dredging of that body of water in over a decade.
“We made sure to listen to residents’ concerns and rely on research and statistics to make informed decisions that prioritize everyone’s well-being,” he added. “We are extremely proud of these enhancements, which make Blue Point a safer and more enjoyable place to live and visit.”
