Karissa O’Brien, RN,
Unit 2 North/South

As a nurse on one of Long Island Community Hospital’s busiest units, O’Brien’s co-workers praise her for her enthusiasm and willingness to help in any way possible, while her patients and their families appreciate her compassion, dedication and professionalism. O’Brien exudes professionalism with all health care staff within the hospital always putting the patients’ needs first. As preceptor who trains other nurses on her team, her colleagues respect and appreciate her wealth of knowledge. O’Brien is always there when extra help is needed, but her greatest quality is her warm personality and contagious smile that just makes everyone’s day better.

Maureen Gil, RN, Perioperative Services

Gil exemplifies the core values of Long Island Community Hospital.  She is a true representation and shining example of what it means to be a registered nurse. In a profession of service to both patients and the community, Gil also cares for the well-being of her teammates.  She is widely respected by her peers for her leadership, and her fellow nurses often look to her for collaboration and advice. She clearly understands the importance of the patient experience, while embracing a global view of health care.  Gil will also answer the call to assist on other units outside of Perioperative Services. She is a valued member of the perioperative team and the Long Island Community Hospital nursing family.

Mary DaSilva, RN, assistant nurse manager, Emergency Department

DaSilva is the definition of a Florence Nightingale. As a dedicated caregiver at Long Island Community Hospital since 1989, she has touched many lives throughout her years of service and now continues to demonstrate her ability as an inspiring strong leader in her role as an assistant nurse manager. DaSilva has also been a leader in Emergency Nursing, serving as a member of Emergency Nurses Association for many years, as past secretary and president of the Suffolk ENA. She continues to be actively involved in the organization, while exemplifying what it means to provide exceptional care to our patients. DaSilva is always there to provide compassionate care, as well as leadership and assistance to the nursing staff in a busy Emergency Department. Best known by all for her honesty and integrity, DaSilva is truly valued by both her hospital and her community.
